Today marks Day Three of the reconstruction of Wayne's house, and the wall structures of the house are now standing strong. Despite the insane heat, the team is energized as we begin placing the studs, a crucial step toward ensuring the property is structurally sound and providing shelter once again.

Kit, our dedicated contractor, is teaching the volunteers and apprentices how to properly apply hurricane straps and fastenings. Under his guidance, everyone is learning the meticulous techniques required to enhance the resilience of a wooden structure. These small components might seem insignificant, but they play a vital role in reinforcing the house against future storms.

Using high-quality materials like Simpson straps and fasteners is essential in hurricane-prone areas. These metal connectors securely tie the roof, walls, and foundation together, creating a unified structure that can better withstand powerful winds.

By incorporating these reinforcements, we're not just rebuilding a house—we're constructing a safer, more durable home prepared to face the forces of nature.

Here's what our apprenticeship manager, Ricardo Prescott had to say:

"I must say, being Grenadian, growing up with the expectation that a wooden house should only take a weekend to build...

After being involved in the past few days of properly, structuring a building to withstand hurricane force, I totally understand why a weekend house gives you what to pay for.

Today I understand the reasons for straps and anchor bolts, as well as the right procedures and having the right tools.

I understood that in scuba diving and sailing but now understand the need for standards and procedures in all industries.."
